How to Wash Transparent Nylon Curtains

Nylon is a synthetic fabric, discovered following the studies carried out by the American chemist Carothers. Nylon was very popular in the textile industry, where it has brought notable innovations and progress. Suffice it to say that the American heavy militia first used it during the Second World War: after the end of the war, there was a strong demand for nylon due to the stockings and tights made from this material.

Needed: Washing machine, Cold water, Fabric softener, Electric clothesline, Duvet or cloth, Vacuum cleaner, Epsom iodized salt.

Wash the nylon curtains in the washing machine, taking care to set the delicate cycle, and use a special laundry detergent that does not fade their color. You tend to use cold water unless the curtains are filthy: if they need deeper cleaning, use hot water.

Generally, all fabric garments have a label with washing instructions. Consult them before washing your curtains, and avoid boiling water, as it seriously damages the fabric. Always use a good fabric softener to minimize creasing and avoid mixing with other fabric types when washing, as nylon attracts dyes and could cause them to fade.

Dry the awnings in the sun, or if you have one, use a low-temperature electric clothesline. Avoid putting them in the dryer, as it causes the colors to fade and crease the fabric. Instead, remove the nylon curtains from the drying rack while the fabric is still slightly damp. Hang the curtains in the kitchen or living room and let them finish drying at room temperature.

Dust nylon curtains weekly to keep them clean between washes, as washing them too often can wear down the fabric. With a clean duvet or cloth, dust both sides of the curtains, starting from the top to the bottom.

Alternatively, use the vacuum cleaner by mounting the special accessory that is suitable for cleaning the curtains. If their color starts to lose its vibrancy, use two cups of Epsom iodized salts (you can find them at the pharmacy) dissolved in the final rinse, which will help restore color and brightness.
