Until recently, the dishwasher was considered almost a luxury, an extra useful accessory, especially for large families. Today, the work commitments, the little time that can be devoted to household chores, and greater economic availability have made it one of the kitchen’s basic elements, like the fridge and the oven.
Loading a dishwasher is not a complicated operation, but inserting the dishes correctly can help for more precise and safer cleaning. Among all the dishes, glasses are the most delicate and difficult to wash both by hand.
Their fragility exposes them to breakage or damage that cannot always be remedied. You need to pay a lot of attention and use small tricks to have perfect results.
The guide will give you advice on how to wash the glasses with the dishwasher, the use of detergents, and their placement in the special basket. All this will be followed by adequate drying, at the end of which the glasses and crystals of the washed glasses will return to shine like new.
Before putting the glasses in the dishwasher, the first thing to do is to empty them of all the liquids contained. The washing of the glasses can also be done in the dishwasher, provided that detergents and soaps with powerful smells are not used. They are well rinsed to eliminate soap residues that would compromise the wine’s visual and olfactory evaluation.
Particular attention must also be paid when washing crystal glasses: make sure that they are fixed to the rack (larger glasses are more difficult to a house) and are well away from each other to avoid any contact that could break them. It is also essential to check the levels of detergent and rinse aid to avoid limescale deposits.
Once all the pieces have been placed inside the appliance, the washing program must be selected: the ideal would be to choose a delicate one at a low temperature and short cycle using the right detergent amount. The most suitable detergent is a liquid or gel detergent because the tablet format scratches the glass due to the alkaline dust content.
To avoid the formation of limescale lines, a rinse aid must be added: to the industrial one, it is better to prefer a natural one such as vinegar, which must be put in the special tray together with water, in the dose of 2 to 1. The limestone patina is prevented with a sprinkle of water and sugar before washing. To avoid the formation of halos, remember to put the appropriate salt.
When washing in the dishwasher is finished, you can proceed with electric drying or with air drying. For hand drying, lint-free cloths should be used. The washed and wet glasses must be immediately removed from the machine to allow the steam created inside to deposit.
The water collected in the base of the stem of the goblet glasses can be eliminated by lifting the basket on one side. If despite everything, wash after wash, the glasses become opaque, boil water and vinegar, keep them immersed for half an hour, then transfer them to a basin with lemon juice or leave them to soak overnight in water and bicarbonate.
