How to Wash and Sterilize Soft Toys

Children are true collectors of small stuffed animals, which accompany their childhood for a long time. Often the soft toys are subject to a thousand ups and downs, they are dirty, pulled, placed everywhere, and from time to time, they need a little cleaning.

The houses are full of cute plush animals of various kinds, especially the children’s bedrooms. Over time, these sweet and tender friends absorb a lot of dust and especially mites, losing the coat’s sheen and softness and becoming vehicles for allergies.

In this short guide, I will explain how to sterilize best and wash soft toys. So let’s see how to do it in a short and fast way. Let’s work.

Needed: Neutral soap, Vinegar, Pillowcase or mesh bag, Sponge, Coldwater, Plastic bag.

First, divide the stuffed animals by looking at the label. Set aside those intended for washing in the washing machine and the soft toys that need to be washed by hand. Fill the washing machine with colored soft toys, while the light ones put them aside because they must be washed separately to avoid color loss.

Washing in the washing machine for stuffed animals must not exceed 30°C, and the program to be used is the one for delicate items.

Start the wash and put a non-aggressive detergent for wool garments and pour a little in the vinegar’s softener compartment. To prevent the soft toys from being damaged, put them in a mesh bag or a pillowcase.

When the washing machine is washed, take the rag puppets and spread them out in a well-ventilated area. If the days are not very sunny, it will take more than a day for them to dry. Avoid using the dryer because it will ruin the soft toys’ fur, as it tends to harden the hair.

Take the soft toys that are hand washed and immerse them in a basin with water and neutral white soap. Leave to act for fifteen minutes, and when the puppets have absorbed the water and soap well, take them out and rinse carefully, without wringing.

Put them outside to dry and not expose them directly to the sun, but they could discolor in a ventilated part. Once dry, brush the soft toys with a soft bristle brush. For puppets with small rattles, you need to apply a dry cleaning, i.e., rub the plush’s coat with a sponge soaked in water and neutral soap and then let it dry.

The most effective remedy to sterilize and restore shine to old stuffed animals is to put the puppets in plastic bags, close them tightly and store them in the freezer for a whole day. After the necessary time, take them out of the bags and brush them well.

The soft toys will regain their brilliance, and thanks to the cold, the mites will disappear. Washing a stuffed animal is not so different from washing other clothes, then following the advice of this guide, you will be able to do everything in the shortest possible time and done well so that you can give the little stuffed animal back to your child, who can continue to play happily. I have to wish you good work. Until next time.
