Contrary to what one might think, the stains on the cashmere, in most cases, can be removed without particular difficulties and without necessarily having to bring the garment to the laundry. In this regard, knowing cashmere well is the key to be successful stain removal.
Being a type of tissue based on proteins (as it is made from goats), it is necessary to follow special rules for removing stains. Let’s see how to remove stains from cashmere.
As for oil and grease stains (mayonnaise, butter, hand lotions, etc.), gently start absorbing the stain to eliminate excess. We recommend a pre-treatment of the stain by immersing the garment in a solution consisting of a part of water and one of the mild shampoos, or with liquid dishwasher detergent that eliminates the fat. Finally, perform a hand wash in cold water.
If it is a question of chocolate stains, it is important to act immediately but gently to remove excess chocolate, using a pointed knife or spoon, while being careful not to spread the chocolate evenly on the clean parts. Then rinse in cold water at low pressure from the backside of the stain.
If this procedure has not produced satisfactory results, another solution is the pre-treatment of the stain by immersing the garment in a basin with water and mild shampoo or with a liquid detergent with a neutral pH. Gently rub in the area affected by the chocolate stain, wait a few minutes and then immerse in cold water for about 15 minutes, always rubbing to loosen the stain.
Finally, in the case of red-wine stains (as well as tea, coffee, fruit juices, and tomato sauce), being water-based stains, they will be absorbed more deeply by natural fibers. Also, in this case, it is necessary to act promptly with a solution of water and detergent with neutral pH.
Avoid using natural soap or powder detergent as highly alkaline. These products can enlarge the stain rather than remove it, damaging the cashmere protein fibers. Rub gently with the sponge and always rinse with cold water.
