The orange peel or curled painting is a tasteful and very delicate technique. Although many like it, especially in elegant or rustic environments, it is no longer very fashionable, replaced by other types of more modern and functional decoration. It is also not very resistant to humidity.
Many find themselves wanting to remove it from the walls of their home for one or both reasons. Removing the orange peel paint from the wall isn’t easy, but it’s not impossible either. In this guide, we will try to explain how to do it!
Thermal gun
One way to remove this paint is to use the heat gun, combined with a palette knife or scraper. Use the heat gun slowly and immediately afterward, pass the spatula or scraper to remove the paint parts that will come off.
Keep in mind that this process takes a long time, as you have to proceed in small pieces. Also, the heat gun produces a lot of heat, so you will also need to wear safety glasses, a mask, gloves, and a lot of caution. And you’ll have to open the windows.
Gardener’s sprayer
If you don’t know how to use the heat gun, don’t worry, there is another tool you can use: a simple gardener sprayer. With this, you will have to spray on the paint, wait for it to soak up water, then repeat the operation and remove the paint layer with a scraper or a plasterboard knife.
If the material doesn’t come off easily, wet it again and try again, but don’t overdo it, or you risk damaging the wall. Once the paint layer is removed from the entire room, wipe the wall with sandpaper and then some stucco.
Wall paint remover
Another straightforward method is to use the wall paint remover, which you can easily buy in a paint shop. Apply the paint stripper abundantly, with a brush or roller, wait at least an hour and go over it again if they still paint residues to be removed. That’s all; the paint layer will peel off the wall smoothly. At this point, choose the method that best suits you and get to work!
Remember that, whatever method you like, it is a good idea to cover the floors with sheets to reduce dirt on the floors. Also, remove all plates and cover the sockets with paper tape. And, nevertheless, know that it will need a good clean after. But don’t be put off by this! Good job!
