How to eliminate humidity stains from paintings
As we will see during this guide, although it may seem difficult, removing the stains of humidity from the paintings is actually quite a feasible job, it is sufficient to follow a series of basic tips, which will help you remove the annoying humidity stains present on your paintings and to avoid the birth of new imperfections on them. Let’s see together how to proceed.
First of all, keep in mind that humidity on the panel can cause annoying mold stains over time. This is why it is important to intervene promptly on the damage, to avoid that humidity causes the birth of spots on the drawings and prints.
To dry the humidity, I advise you to expose the painting to the sun for a few minutes (5-10 minutes) to eliminate the stains present. Then you can try some natural expedients, avoiding to use stiff brushes to clean the picture (especially to avoid spreading the humidity and mold spores possibly present on the picture)
To easily remove humidity from the panels, it is also advisable to use disinfectant solutions easily available on the market. Go to a special restoration shop and look for natural and neutral detergents (these can be applied with a cotton swab or a clean white cotton cloth).
These detergent solutions often contain a component of disinfectant, very useful to avoid mold formation on the damp spot (on the market, it is possible to find real kits capable of eliminating the humidity present on furnishing accessories).
To avoid the birth of humidity on the paintings instead, I recommend you to expose the paintings on the unframed walls (to allow greater ventilation). Alternatively, I advise you to apply special spacers in felt on the switchboard (to be applied in the corners) to place a certain distance from the switchboard to the wall.
Also, avoid hanging the picture in certain particular points of the house, for example, over a fireplace or over a radiator (temperature variations can cause the birth of humidity and mold on the picture).
As you can see from this guide, the preservation of painting requires specific conservation precautions, including the need to preserve the paintings from the wrong humidity and light (small mold and humidity spots on the canvas can ruin the beauty and quality of a painting).
