How to clean tile joints with baking soda
Keeping the home environment healthy and tidy is an activity to be carried out every day. Homemakers know this well: a clean house is a more livable house. Of course, this is not just an aesthetic question. It is a question of health.
Cleaning every room from top to bottom is a job that we can do in stages. Some elements of our home can be washed a few times a week. One of these elements is the floor. There are small areas of the floor that can accumulate a lot of dirt.
We are talking about the joints between tiles. This also happens in the tiles that cover the walls of kitchens and bathrooms. But we have a completely natural solution to the problem. We will find out how to clean the tile joints using simple bicarbonate.
Know the uses of baking soda
By now, the positive properties of bicarbonate are known to all. This salt can be used in many areas thanks to its sanitizing, anti-odor, and cleaning properties. Many consider it a ” miraculous ” ingredient. It also finds space in the kitchen as an adjuvant to leavening.
Helps dough swell and become softer. Bicarbonate has a degreasing and whitening action. It is perfect for the removal of strong deposits. A prevalent case is incrustations in the oven or the bottom of pans and pots. The product only needs to act for a few minutes for it to work.
Prepare the mixture
But when it comes to the joints between tiles, what should we do? Dirt in joints can settle over weeks or even months. Removing it can be difficult if you don’t have the right tools. But with baking soda, everything becomes easier.
As mentioned, bicarbonate has a degreasing and cleaning action. This also makes it suitable for cleaning tile joints. For this job, we will have to create a kind of baking soda batter. We pour a few tablespoons of baking soda into a small bowl. Meanwhile, heat some water in a saucepan.
Thoroughly clean the joints.
Without bringing the water to a boil, turn off the gas. We pour the water on the baking soda a little at a time while mixing with a teaspoon. We add some water until we get a thick, almost gelatinous mixture. We spread this compound along the joints of the tiles. We leave the mixture to act for 30 minutes.
Finally, we pass a soft cloth along the joints to remove all the dirt. For the toughest residues, we can use a toothbrush. In a few moments, we will clean the joints, bringing them back to their original whiteness. After cleaning the joints, we wash the floor as usual.
