How to clean shirt collars

In the house’s daily cleaning, there is always something to learn, thanks to some of the new or ancient remedies, the so-called ” grandmother’s remedies ” that have been handed down from generation to generation. By reading the following passages, you will find some useful and simple tips on how to clean shirt collars properly.

Needed: Neutral shampoo, brush, product stick or spray for shirts, water, bicarbonate.

First of all, cleaning the necks and cuffs of shirts is a truly fundamental operation for the laundry’s success. The first remedy that I want to offer you is to apply a few drops of neutral shampoo directly on the collars and wrists: spread it well, also helping you with a brush or with your fingers.

The shampoo’s function is to dissolve the dust present, the grease of the skin, and the sweat marks. Once this is done, let the product act for a few minutes so that the fabric absorbs it, and its action is effective, then wash the shirt in the washing machine.

Afterward, if you prefer to wash your shirts by hand, avoid scrubbing the fabric with a brush because you risk creasing them easily. Instead, to eliminate the stains on the necks and wrists, apply specific non-corrosive spray or stick products and leave to act, then wash normally.

A completely natural method to facilitate collars’ cleaning is to prepare a not too liquid mixture of water and sodium bicarbonate and put it on the parts to be removed. Subsequently, leave on for about twenty minutes and then wash as usual by hand or in the washing machine.

Many think that an infallible system for cleaning shirt collars uses bleach on the parts to be treated. This system is hazardous because, over time, the product will damage the fabrics’ fibers. Bleach has a corrosive action.

A remedy to preserve your garments over time is to avoid using the dryer, as the strong heat will shorten the garments’ sleeves. Instead, I advise you to spread them outdoors in a well-ventilated area to avoid this unpleasant inconvenience. The most important thing is always to wash the shirts in cold water, i.e., between 86-104 F° maximum. This will guarantee a longer duration over time.
