How to Clean Plastic

Resistant, soft, and flexible, plastic is widely used to make outdoor furniture, furnishing accessories, tools, appliances, and children’s toys. Cleaning plastic objects is not easy. To remove dirt and germs from the games and any other surface, suitable detergents and tools must be used.

Too aggressive detergents and abrasive sponges irreparably damage and corrode the plastic. Each object must be treated differently and with great care. In this way, they will have a long life and timeless beauty.

Needed: Baking soda, lemon juice, wine or apple vinegar, fine salt, hydrogen peroxide, hot water, microfibre cloths, soft brush, dishwashing liquid, bleach.

Outdoor plastic furniture is more exposed to the elements. To remove dust from the table and chairs, use a microfibre cloth or a soft bristle brush. Then fill a bowl with plenty of hot, but not boiling, water and a glass of bleach. Clean the plastic surface with a sponge.

Insist on any stains. Rinse and dry carefully. To restore the old whiteness, bleach the plastic with water (70%) and white or apple vinegar (30%). Alternatively, dissolve two tablespoons of baking soda in one liter of water.

Toys are a dangerous receptacle for germs and bacteria. For greater hygiene and safety, soak them in water and vinegar or baking soda. Leave the mixture to act for at least 15 minutes. Then, rub the plastic with an old toothbrush or a soft bristle brush.

Avoid abrasive sponges to avoid scratching and corroding surfaces. Dry with a soft cloth. To clean plastic toys with electrical circuits or metal parts, use a different treatment. In this case, use a soft brush. Remove stubborn stains with a damp cloth.

To clean plastic household appliances, wipe the surfaces with a soft cloth moistened with water and vinegar. Rinse and dry very carefully. Plastic food containers turn yellow easily with tomato sauces and dishes. In this case, do not use bleach or hydrogen peroxide.

Work with warm water and lemon juice. Combine two tablespoons of vinegar, three of table salt, and one of the dishwashing liquid. Leave to rest for a day. Then. Melt a spoonful of baking soda. Clean the walls and rinse the container normally, under running water.

Note:

  • Yellowed plastic should be treated with lemon juice and dishwashing liquid. Next, soak in a solution of warm water, hydrogen peroxide, Marseille soap.
  • Plastic bottles must be sanitized with a preparation based on water and bicarbonate. Leave for 24 hours. Then rinse with cold water.
