How to Clean Oil Stains from Parquet

Parquet is an elegant coating that embellishes the environments in which it is present. Its material and colors can warm and furnish living rooms and bedrooms. However, it needs considerable care to stay shiny and clean.

In addition to normal maintenance, it can sometimes happen that you have to resort to extraordinary measures to solve small domestic accidents such as spilling liquids. Also, cleaning stains isn’t always easy, especially oil stains. Let alone if this happens on a delicate floor such as a parquet.

Carefully follow this guide which will explain how to clean oil stains from parquet.

Needed: Clay, cotton cloths, vinegar, specific detergent and protective cream.

Let’s start by saying that the parquet floor is extremely more delicate than synthetic or ceramic coverings. Therefore, it is advisable to use them in places where humidity is minimal and where you do not need to wash them frequently.

There are various types according to tastes and the room where will place it. For example, the shades of the material used vary, or the gloss of the finishes, to adapt to any furniture. The latest trends in parquet even include foils that make it suitable for the bathroom and kitchen.

Wherever you want to lay it, the always valid advice is the same. First of all, choose quality material that lasts over time and a very professional company to install it.

If drops of oil should fall despite all the precautions, the first thing to do is take measures right away. We must not risk that the wood absorbs them because otherwise, it would be impossible to remove them.

Take some powdered clay (always useful to keep at home for aesthetic packs and cleaning) and put two tablespoons in a small glass. Mix with a tablespoon of white vinegar and mix to form a paste. The clay has extreme absorbing power and can block the infiltration of oil into the parquet.

It is necessary to leave it for at least an hour (even more if the stain is very extensive) and then remove it with a damp cloth.

At this point, proceed with the treatment to clean and restore the protective patina to the surface. With a cotton cloth soaked in liquid detergent for parquet, clean the part by rubbing gently. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. It is advisable to finish with a layer of cream that can revive, protect and moisturize.

Note: If you don’t have clay at hand, you can replace it with absorbent talcum powder.
