How to clean glass block walls

Improperly called ” glass blocks, “these transparent glass bricks come in various sizes, shapes, colors, and degrees of transparency. Their use is quite widespread for their elegance, robustness, and practicality: they build floors or walls or intersect with them as a kind of decoration.

But they are rather preferred for the ability. They have to let the light pass inside the rooms without compromising strangers’ vision from the outside. The name comes from the fact that in some realizations of building walls that involve glass bricks, the latter are assembled from reinforced concrete and the denomination of a glass block wall.

In particular, it consists of two layers of glass held together to form a depressurized air chamber, which gives it very high thermal insulation, fire retardant, and soundproofing functions. Thus, its maintenance is not even very complicated, and this tutorial will show us, in detail, how to properly clean the glass block walls, using household and natural products to protect the environment.

To clean the joints, you have to make a cream based on hydrogen peroxide, and potato starch, spread it with the help of a toothbrush, and leave it on for at least an hour, after which you can remove the preparation with a damp sponge. On the other hand, you can use the same precautions to remove dirt from the glass for glass blocks.

If the wall is particularly greasy and dusty, we recommend that you start the treatment with a soft dry cloth to remove the dust layer and, subsequently, with a sponge soaked in warm water and two tablespoons of vinegar.

If the surface is not completely smooth but slightly frosted, you must instead proceed with a brush immersed in the same solution. Remember that vinegar and eliminating grease and sanitizing also have an important descaling action, ideal for eliminating any halo and stain.

A valid alternative to this method is to make a solution with half a liter of water and two tablespoons of lemon juice. Then, after shaking well, you have to pour everything into a spray container, spray it on the surface like a common glass cleaner, and clean it vigorously with the sponge.

In this case, the virtues of citric acid will sanitize the surface, eliminating the most stubborn dirt and grease. Then, for an equally brilliant result, you can treat the glass block with a mixture of half a liter of water and a spoonful of bicarbonate. Next, immerse yourself in a soft cloth and carefully clean the entire surface: in this way, you will disinfect and, at the same time, remove the dirt.

Once the cleaning treatment has been carried out, you must finally provide accurate polishing to eliminate any halo and obtain a pleasant shine and brilliance effect.

One of the best methods is to use an ordinary newspaper, which you have to pass over the surface with energetic and circulatory movements. Alternatively, the dry cotton cloth will also suffice. In this way, the wall will be clean and shiny, with truly satisfying results.
