Household cleaning always takes a lot of effort, but we know how necessary it is. When a house looks neat and fragrant, it is undoubtedly more pleasant to live in and even more beautiful. In addition to floors, bathroom fixtures, and glass, it is also necessary to clean the furniture, including chairs: they constitute an essential piece of furniture for every home.
But how to clean the legs of the chairs correctly and without excessive effort? In the next steps, we will give you some suggestions.
Prepare the cleaning material.
Antique or modern, refined or simple, chairs are important elements of home furnishings: regular maintenance is important and necessary. They are used daily and can easily get dirty. Therefore, in addition to cleaning the back and seat, it is also necessary to clean the chairs’ legs, which are always easily exposed to splashes and traces of dirt.
To act efficiently and with little effort, get the following material: a basin, some newspaper, a little liquid soap from Marseille, a stiff bristle brush, a sponge for dishes, two teaspoons of lemon juice, clean rags, possible furniture wax, woolen cloth.
Create a cleaning and degreasing solution
Start the process by preparing a simple but effective degreasing detergent, useful for both wood and metal. In a rather hot water basin, pour half a tablespoon of Marseille liquid and two teaspoons of lemon juice, then shake everything well. Dip the sponge in the solution and squeeze it, then clean the backrest and seat first. Next, rinse everything well with a wet, wrung-out rag using clean water. Finally, dry each treated part.
Wash the legs of the chairs
Now proceed with the cleaning of the legs. Cover the table with several sheets of newspaper, then lean the chair over, turning it over. Eliminate any old felt pads, removing any glue residues. If there are machined or carved parts, remove dust and dirt with the brush.
With the wet sponge and squeezed in the previously prepared solution, wash each leg well, outside and inside. With the abrasive part of the sponge, gently insist on stubborn dirt, then rinse your legs by wiping them with a wet and squeezed rag using clean water.
Polish the legs of the chairs
Now, if your freshly cleaned legs are made of wood, you can polish them with a little beeswax for furniture. If, on the other hand, the legs are made of satin or enameled metal, wipe them with a wool cloth. Finally, apply any new felt pads and place the chair on the floor.
Also, polish the back and seat in the same way. Next, replace the wet newspaper sheets by placing dry ones on the work surface, then continue cleaning the other chairs’ legs using the same procedure.
