How to Clean an Oil Container

Oil, both of olive and vegetable origin, is a product widely used in Italian kitchens. It is an ingredient that cannot be missing and is present in almost all sweet and savory preparations. Unfortunately, removing this substance from dishes and cookware is generally not always an easy task.

In this guide, we will cover in detail how to clean an oil container. This is quite challenging, as the melted fat sticks to the container’s walls and bottom. So let’s find out together, step by step, which products to use and how to operate to obtain a perfect final result.

Needed: Rice, Coarse salt, Soft cloth, Hot water, Liquid dish detergent, Vinegar.

First, empty the oil container left inside. Fill the container with hot water, shake and empty two or three times. Sprinkle half of it with boiling water. Add a spoonful of neutral liquid soap or white vinegar to disinfect and sanitize everything perfectly.

Plug the top and shake vigorously so that the solution is evenly distributed inside. Let it act for two hours. After the necessary time, drain the contents in the sink. If the bottle is filthy and the glass appears yellowed, fill it with coarse salt. Let it act for at least 48 hours: the salt will absorb all the grease deposited on the surface, even the encrusted one.

Help yourself with a long and thin handled brush or a wooden ladle to remove any residual salt left on the container’s walls and bottom. Next, rinse the inside and outside of the bottle with hot water. Then wipe the entire surface with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Place the bowl upside down on the dish drainer to allow the moisture to evaporate. In this way, you have removed all the grease from the oil and reused the perfectly clean container.

If the dispenser has a narrow neck, the previous method cannot be applied easily, so we advise you to proceed as described below. Fill the bottle 3/4 full with hot water, pouring it very slowly. Cover the opening with your fingers or a cork of adequate size and shake vigorously. Remove the liquid and let it dry upside down for an hour. After the necessary time, insert a handful of rice into the bottle, clean the areas that are not easily accessible.

Shake well and let it rest for about twenty minutes. Rinse the inside with plenty of hot water and repeat the operation where necessary. Allow the bowl to air dry and wipe the outer glass area with a clean, lint-free rag. Perform fast, circular movements to prevent the formation of halos. If there are stains that are particularly difficult to remove, use a glass spray only outside.

Note: Let the various products act for at least two-three hours to ensure total removal of the grease from the surfaces.
