How to clean PVC awnings

Awnings are a handy accessory to keep the temperature inside the house constant. Thanks to awnings, it is possible to keep the temperature lower in summer, preventing the walls most exposed to sunlight from becoming too hot and preventing rain and snow from dirtying windows and walls in winter.

Even the curtains, over time, need cleaning and maintenance. Then find out how to clean PVC awnings simply and economically.

Needed: Water, water barrel and spray nozzle, clean broom, degreaser, sponge.

Lower the curtains and sweep them

The first step in cleaning PVC awnings is definitely to lower the curtains as much as possible. It makes no difference whether your curtains are equipped with an electric motor or that they can be lowered with a crank. The important thing is that you lower the curtains as much as possible while leaving the fabric well stretched.

Then take a ” clean ” broom and start sweeping the tent’s surface, thus eliminating the excess dust formed on it. In case it is possible to clean both the inside and the outside to obtain an optimal result.

Humidify the curtains and spray the degreaser

Once you have thoroughly swept your PVC awning, you can proceed with the deeper cleaning. With a water hose and a spray nozzle, carefully moisten your tent. If the tent gets excessively wet, allow a few hours to pass to dry slightly and stop dripping.

With the help of a sprayer, a lance (or a ladder) applies the degreaser on the entire surface of the PVC curtain. If your tent is on the main road and is very dirty with car exhausts, you can use an industrial degreaser. Let the degreaser act on the surface of the PVC curtain for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Rinse the curtains thoroughly.

After the necessary time, the degreaser should have made the dirt on the curtain easier to remove, retake the broom, moisten its surface, and brush the entire PVC curtain. Particularly insist on cleaning the most stained areas with the broom.

Use a sponge to clean the support hooks that block the awning in the same way. Then rinse everything using the water hose and the diffuser until it stops falling dirt and soap from your tent. Let it dry completely and roll up the curtain.

Note: When you are going to clean your PVC tent and live on the upper floors, make sure to notify and ask the tenants of the lower floor in advance, making sure where soap and water will fall before someone falls and accidentally gets hurt or get wet.
