How to clean terracotta floors naturally

Having a terracotta floor at home is undoubtedly a classy choice. This type of material can make rooms warm and particularly welcoming. Terracotta is very resistant, but at the same time extremely delicate. Only with proper and accurate maintenance can you keep it perfect and in order.

In this guide, we will explain how to clean it naturally. Avoiding the use of chemical detergents will be good for both you and the environment. The products to be used are easily available, and you probably already have them at home. The types of intervention that we show you are good for both indoor and outdoor floors. Let’s find out together, step by step, how to clean terracotta in detail.

Needed: Water, apple or white vinegar, flakes of Marseille soap, baking soda, beeswax, seed oil, microfiber cloth, bucket, old ladle.

First of all, let’s see how to do the ordinary cleaning of the terracotta floor naturally. Take a bucket and pour a couple of liters of warm water into it. Add about 100 ml of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar and some Marseille soap flakes.

Mix well with an old ladle until the solid parts dissolve completely. Dip a soft microfibre cloth in the container and wring it out well. Please pass it on the terracotta floor. Once dry, consider whether to repeat the operation.

If there are stains on your terracotta floor, you must act on the type of product that has fallen on it. As for the oil, we advise you to remove it quickly with kitchen paper towels.

Do not rub, but lightly dab until completely absorbed. The same goes for any other type of fatty substance. As soon as you have removed everything, wash with the same mixture created for the ordinary cleaning based on vinegar, Marseille soap, and water.

If particularly acidic substances such as lemon juice have fallen onto your terracotta floor, act as follows. To clean naturally, pour a good dose of baking soda onto the stain. The powder will tend to absorb the liquid. Remove the wet product and wipe the floor with a soft cloth soaked in a mixture of Marseille soap and warm water.

Let dry well. Repeat the operation until the halo disappears. If it wasn’t enough, do you use it? Also, in this case? The vinegar-based detergent.

Given the delicate nature of the terracotta floor, we recommend that you feed it thoroughly. To do it naturally, use seed oil to make it shiny and shiny. Spread it over the entire surface, always using a soft, lint-free cloth—this type of intervention you can do it every month.

The same goes for wax. Make a mixture consisting of two liters of water and two tablespoons of beeswax. Dip the rag in the product obtained. After squeezing it very well, pass it evenly on the terracotta floor.

Note: Always test in a hidden corner of the floor to avoid problems. The terracotta floor must be washed with very wrung out rags as it absorbs a lot of water.
