5 Mistakes to avoid when Cleaning Laminate

Laminate is a widely used material in the furniture industry. It is used for both coatings and floors. Generally, the laminate is made up of several layers joined together. The outermost layer is the printed or decorated one that remains visible.

Laminate maintenance is not particularly difficult, but you have to be very careful. The slightest distraction is enough to ruin the laminate surface forever. In this article, we will see the five mistakes to avoid when cleaning the laminate are.

Needed: Soft bristle broom, Cloth, Vinegar, Hot water, Specific detergents or shampoo.

Should clean the laminate on the floor regularly by sweeping the surface. We absolutely do not use a common broom. In fact, brooms with too stiff bristles could scratch the laminate. At the same time, sweeping hastily, dirt could settle inside the laminate joints.

When washing the laminate floor, you have to pay attention to the amount of liquid you use. We do not pour whole buckets of soapy water as they could stain the surface of the laminate. Even if we accidentally spill some liquid on the floor, let’s quickly remove it. We wipe off any excess with a dry cloth, then wash the laminate without rubbing too much.

The most common mistake you can make when cleaning laminate concerns the type of cleaning product. To clean the laminate, you need a mild detergent. We avoid products based on bicarbonate of soda because they would ruin the surface. Rather we prefer solutions of water and vinegar. In fact, vinegar can dilute resistant and dry stains. Just spray the mixture on one part at a time and then dry with a cloth.

Not all mild cleaners are suitable for laminate. Perfumed products, especially colored ones, are not ideal for cleaning this material. In fact, this type of detergent could stain the surface in the long run. On the other hand, the perfumed ones have the defect of impressing the aroma of the laminate. Alternatively, we use mild shampoo for children, which will certainly be sweeter and more delicate than other products.

If we have to remove stubborn stains, do not rely on acid solvents. Laminate is a plastic material, so using acids and acetone would corrode the surface. In general, it is always better to wash the laminate with hot water or specific detergents. To remove encrusted stains, we can at most try to scrape them off with a scraper. In extremis, let us rely on a drop of white spirit for ink and colors.
