How to Tidy Up and Clean the Attic
The attic is that part of the house that we would all like to have and which, like the garage and the cellar, is not very frequented. It is a room specifically used to be filled with all those objects, furniture, toys that we do not use frequently but that we cannot give away because, perhaps, they also have an emotional value. However, it should be ensured that this environment is well maintained, ventilated, and sufficiently illuminated.
In this guide, I will give you some useful tips for cleaning and tidying up the attic of your home.
Our houses are full of furnishings and things, which accumulate and fill the closets and our attics over the years. The attic for the type of environment does not offer much space. For this reason, it is necessary to select the things to keep in this room.
Before arranging old and useless objects, you should give them a good clean at least once a year, equipping yourself with a broom, bucket, and old clothes. If you think there is a lot of dust and dirt, wear a work coat, a mask, and latex gloves.
Please open the windows to ventilate the room, then sprinkle some water on the floor so that it doesn’t get much dust when you sweep. Once this is done, try to remove any cobwebs and dust on old furniture and chests; wash the floor with water and vinegar to disinfect the room well.
Once the cleaning is done, you can tidy up the stuff you haven’t used for a long time to make room at home. Being a low room, the alternative is to furnish it with custom-made furniture, wooden chests, and cardboard boxes to store objects.
This environment undergoes great temperatures in the winter and summer months, hot in summer, and cold in winter. For this reason, it is necessary to keep stuff that does not change with the change of seasons. In tightly closed chests and boxes, you can place books, newspapers, toys, old blankets, suitcases, musical instruments.
You can organize special boxes for storing winter or summer clothing such as jackets, coats, all skis, swimwear, bath towels. Take advantage of the space in your attic to also put customized shelves that act as storage and various equipment such as screwdrivers, drills, brushes, etc., or if the environment is extensive, you can get a corner for your hobbies: from painting to DIY, from writing to reading.
