How to clean lace curtains

Lace curtains are exquisite garments, which provide filtered sunlight inside a room through the glass of windows or balconies; Unfortunately, lace is a fabric that attracts a lot of dust and needs to be cleaned thoroughly to prevent it from looking dull and dirty. So here’s how to clean lace curtains.

Needed: Mild cleanser, White vinegar.

Handwash

Remove the lace curtains from the rods and place them on a clean chair or table. Fill a bucket with lukewarm water and add a mild laundry detergent, along with one or 2 tablespoons of ammonia. Mix the mixture well to create a foamy effect. Next, put the curtains in a large basin, immersing them completely; wait for 10 to 15 minutes to remove dirt and dust.

Remove the curtains and rinse them under running water for several minutes. Do not squeeze them excessively, as the lace may come off. Instead, place the curtains between 2 towels and press them gently to remove excess water; hang them on a clothesline to dry them in the sun naturally, and do your normal ironing.

Machine wash

If desired, it is also possible to wash the lace curtains in the washing machine, only if it has a hand wash cycle. Carry out a delicate wash with lukewarm water, add a detergent for delicate items to the tub and place the curtains inside the drum. Do not program the spin cycle but set the ” Ironless ” option.

At the end of the wash, add the softener and wait for the washing machine to finish its cycle. Next, remove the curtains, place them on a chair, and wipe off excess water by patting them with towels. Finally, hang them to dry in the sun or put them in the dryer, setting a delicate drying.

Washing with white vinegar

If your lace curtains have stubborn stains and you are not satisfied with the results of the methods described in the previous steps, use white vinegar as a stain remover. Pour some mild fabric cleaner into the sink and add equal parts white vinegar and hot water.

Dip the curtains in the solution, gently rubbing the lace with your hands for a few moments. Leave to soak for about 20 minutes, then rinse with hot water. Spread the curtains on cloth cords lined with a thick towel, and let them air dry. You can also mix vinegarĀ in a cup with a liter of water; put the mixture on the stain and rub the lace back and forth.
